YIB virtual Call Back afternoon

Home » News » YIB virtual Call Back afternoon

On November 24th we ran the first virtual Call Back
afternoon for our YIBs out on placement.
 The afternoon provided an
opportunity for YIBs to network with each other on MS teams, share stories
about their placements and learn more about the Academic Assessment which
they will need to complete by October 2021

Mikael Andehn, the new Year in
Business Academic Director for Year in Business, shared details of the Case
study which students have to complete as part of their Assessment. This is a 5,000
word essay linking the Academic theories studied during the first two years at
University in relation to the placement being undertaken.

The second part of the Assessment is a Personal
Development portfolio, made up of 8 STAR examples based on skills the students
demonstrate during their placement year. Ed McLean, a Careers Consultant ran a
STAR workshop giving students the opportunity to share an example and be
critiqued.

Our YIBs this year are on placement at a range of
companies including: Asahi Beer, AWIN,BMW,  Brondby IF (Denmark), Canon
UK, Grohe, L'Oreal,  Lazard, London Infrastructure Limited, National
Physics Laboratory, Rolls Royce, Samsung, SAP, The Walt Disney Co, Take-Two
Interactive, Tinsmith Fabrics, Virgin Media,  VMWare.

We have enjoyed receiving updates
from YIBs during the placement review meetings we hold with their managers and also from their Linkedin postings. One of the YIBs
we have heard from is Priya who is doing a Marketing placement at
L'Oreal.

Priya shared details on Linkedin
of how, in September, she was able to help work on a product display at #JohnBellandCroydon, and
see
L'Oréal's  SkinCeuticals on
shelf in person. She talked of the product launch of Tripeptide-R Neck
Repair,
L'Oréal's first
ever corrective retinol neck cream and how she had been involved in designing
the emails for the launch.

Priya also shared details of how
ever
year for the previous 10 years, L'Oréal
employees have spent an entire work day volunteering and offering their skills
to hundreds of social and environmental organisations. This is known as Citizen
Day. Unlike previous years, this year’s Citizen Day was virtual. Priya described
how rewarding this experience was : how she worked with a group of students
from a local high school  to prepare an app idea to pitch to their
class. Each group needed to consider the functions, design, costs, advertising,
etc. involved in the app’s creation

We are looking forward to seeing
the Year in Business students at the next Call Back afternoon, scheduled for
February 9th, and hearing more about their placements.
