Below are the examples of digital marketing step by step activities or we can call it digital marketing best practices samples. There are many media or channels that you applied in your digital marketing strategy.
The examples that I will share are social media marketing and email marketing. I share this two media for your digital marketing practice because this two media (social marketing and email marketing) are the most recognized media among digital/online marketer.
You can find another best practice out there for more detail steps, here I just summarize for you (especially beginner marketer/college student who want to be a marketer) the step that you can follow and implement it gradually or step by step.
Do these practices work for you? The answer is, depends on you and you will know it after you practice and implement it in your daily marketing activities. So, below are the examples:
Example steps to perform a testing for finding out what social media work well for your landing page
1. Setup your social media account.
a. Setup your business account on Twitter.
– Tweet beneficial information daily.
– Post content which is related to your business to build your reputation.
– Start following others.
– Find out the influencers in your field. Follow them and connect with them.
b. Develop your Facebook Page.
– Posting valuable information daily.
– Post content which is related to your business and build your reputation.
– Try to acquire visitor, it takes time but do it persistently.
– Try to contact your friends, relatives, and influencers to join in your page.
c. Create a Pinterest account.
– Posting good content, especially image and video.
– Start following influencers and get in touch with them, like re-pin, comment, etc.
d. Create a channel on YouTube.
– Upload your video, such as: your daily business activity like host your customer, your employee’s activity, your interview with influencers, explaining your product/product knowledge, tutorial video how to utilize your product or demo product, your customer’s testimony, etc.
– Build your reputation in your channel.
And there are other social media you should try like Instagram and so on. In the point number one, I tell you step if you want grow your audience in the organic or natural way. The thing must be concerned is, this technique takes time and need more patient to do it persistently.
If you have a social media campaign budget for growing your audience, you can start use ads on above social media. You can choose Twitter ads , Facebook ads , Pinterest ads, Instagram ads.
If you need more experiment and still have a marketing budget, you can try on other media such as: stumbleupon ads , reddit ads , and so forth.
2. Once you run your social media campaign (organic or paid ads), you must monitor it and find out which social media generates more traffics to your landing page or money site.

3.After knowing the best media for your business, just focus on it and scale up your business on it.
Example steps to email marketing (lead generation and lead nurturing via email)
1.Build landing page with clear navigation and call-to-action to click sign up button.
– You must learn and build web and page structure/layout/design and good copy-writing that has high conversion rate. In this step, you will utilize a landing page to make visitor do an action you want (click sign up button).
– You must have it more than one (several alternatives), so you can perform A/B test.
– First of all you must prepare the good content and blog for nurture your leads later after they sign up.
2.Once you have road-map of your content plan, start generate traffic to your landing page.
– Traffic generation examples: organic SEO, Google adwords , Yahoo ads , Bing ads , social media (both organic and paid) like I have mentioned above, Public Relation, Influencers endorsement, etc.
– One of the tactics you can try is connect with journalist. If you have an interesting story which can attract more readers in the journalist’s media, they will invite you to put your story in their media.
– Other methods are: create free whitepapers, eBooks, infographics, picture/image, video, slides presentation, etc., and then distribute them in your best channels to make them viral.
3.Track and monitor the traffic.
– You can use Google Analytics (please read my previous articles to see the basic and examples) to track and monitor the traffic. So that, you can make an improvement based on data there to grow your web traffic.
4. Monitor the conversion rate.
– You should perform A/B test to find out your best landing page design, your best copy-writing, and your best call-to-action method to make your visitor do a signing up.
– Actually, you can monitor this in Google analytics, but you can utilize paid tool which is dedicated to optimize your conversion, such as: optimizely , A/B testing for WordPress , convert , marketizator, etc.
– Perform small enhancement based on the result of A/B testing.
Step one to four are continually process, you have to perform it persistently. This is what we call it lead generation activity. Now, we will continue on the next step, namely lead nurturing.
5. Once you found many users have signed up, it means you have collected a list of email. It is called list building.
– You email marketing activity should not stop here, you have to nurture your lead (your subscriber/prospect).
– You should try and utilize marketing automation tool for email marketing management (lead generation, lead nurturing, lead monitoring and scoring) to get sales (get high conversion) and to keep engaging with your current customer (customer loyalty program).
– Email marketing automation software examples are: MailChimp, GetResponse , mautic (this is an open source marketing automation that has lead nurturing and lead tracking/scoring), etc.
6.In this step, you have to learn copy-writing more depth and implement it to your email content.
– You have to experiment, test, and measure what email subject that make your subscriber read your email, what email content that make your subscriber stay and read your newsletter, what content makes people unsubscribe their membership, what typical call-to-action statement that make your subscriber do an action like click the link, click buy button, etc.
Once you find the best approach and get the best result, you can scale up your business on it.
