The Story Behind the Movement

NOVICA was founded in 1999 by a group of people from around the world, including Andy Milk, Charles Hachtmann, Michael Burns, Mina Nercessian and Jose Cervantes. Pictured here are co-founders Roberto Milk and Armenia Nercessian.

We started Novica with a dream to create a better world for artisans, because a better world for artisans is a better world for all. Along the way, we discovered something very important – as artisans around the world succeeded, there was also a visible and profound impact on the communities around them.

Your purchases are that powerful. They directly and indirectly provide for education, help with health care, fund basic needs, support children, preserve disappearing arts, and of course, spread happiness around the world.

Our vision of the future is not one of mega factories producing cookie cutter products for all to cheaply consume. We reject that future!

Buana

Bali and Java

Before his days with NOVICA, Buana sold his jewelry designs door-to-door in the tourist areas of Bali. Business was tough, and local store owners were often slow to pay. All this changed when he joined NOVICA 7 years ago.

Buana now employs 28 of his neighbors to keep up with demand, and can now afford to send both of his children to school.
