On March
9th we welcomed the 1st year YIBs to an Information evening which included a
Car Club Challenge Business game run by Enterprise Rent a Car and concluded
with lots of pizza. The Business game was run by Zoe Croll from Enterprise
This
interactive game provided students with a great opportunity to put their
business and marketing skills into practice. Students had to decide in which
city Enterprise should next open their Car Club brand and in doing so developed
key skills in communication, teamwork, leadership and presenting. We heard some
good analysis of why students had chosen particular cities to launch their
programme and creative ideas for how to spend their Marketing budget. Well
done to the team members who got up and presented their findings to the
audience! This challenge gave a flavour of the sorts of exercises Year in
Business students may encounter when facing Assessment Centres next year.

The students watched a video where previous Year in Business

it here: http://yibprofile.blogspot.com/2019/09/rhyb04reco.html

We have set up Psychometric test pc lab workshops w/c 16th March for
student to practice (dates on timetable) Previous YIB Alvaro says: “Psychometric tests were an essential for all
my placement applications, in fact they are the key for getting through the
recruitment process of most placements whether you do it online or once you are
invited for an interview. I highly recommend to get your head around these as
early as possible, how they work and what to expect from them as different
companies will have different types of tests”
Students also heard from 2nd year YIB Emir Tolanay who has been
successful in securing a placement with SAP in 2020/21. Emir talked about how
the work experience on his CV and his persistence helped him to secure the
position. He highlighted the need for resilience to keep going with
applications as he faced many rejections particularly at the start when he did
not tailor his applications to the specific role. He advised students to use
the resources available, such as the support from Careers to help with CVs and offer
practice interviews.
We are thrilled that Emir has secured this position
with SAP and will follow in the footsteps of many Royal Holloway students who
have been on placement at the company including current YIBs Michael and Adam
along with Andrea who now has a permanent role with the company.
