About Upgrade

Helping you move up

Upgrade helps you make smart financial decisions to help you reach your goals. Like buying a new bike. Fixing the roof. Or finally paying off that fancy fridge. All without getting trapped by endless revolving credit card debt, or sidetracked by sneaky banking fees.

That’s because we believe credit should be affordable and responsible. So we design all our credit, mobile banking and payment products to do three things:

Give you responsible options.

Keep you on track.

And reward you along the way.

The way it should be.

In just the last five years, we’ve made over $24 billion of credit available to our customers. Millions of families across America are now using an Upgrade Card, Loan or Rewards Checking account. That’s millions of people getting more value than they would from a traditional bank. And a better experience, too.

Who Writes Upgrade Reviews?

Real Upgrade customers! Upgrade partners with Trustpilot to collect genuine reviews from customers based on their experience with the Upgrade process.

After reading these reviews, see for yourself how Upgrade can help you take a step toward your goals. With a personal loan, consolidate your high-interest debt payments into a single monthly payment, make some home improvements, or cover that next major purchase.

With Upgrade's Credit Health you can stay on top of your credit score and how it changes over time. We'll even give you personalized recommendations to help you find ways to maintain and improve your credit.

Service Platform

1 Rewards Checking Plus customers who set up monthly direct deposits of $1,000 or more earn 2% cash back on common everyday expenses at convenience stores, drugstores, restaurants and bars – including deliveries – and gas stations, as well as recurring payments on utilities and monthly subscriptions including phone, cable, TV and other streaming services, and 1% cash back on all other debit card purchases. 2% cash back is limited to $500 in rewards per calendar year; after $500, customers earn 1% cash back on all eligible debit card purchases for the remainder of the year. Rewards Checking Plus accounts with less than $1,000 in monthly direct deposits 60 days after account opening will earn 1% cash back on common everyday expenses and 0.50% cash back on all other eligible debit card purchases. Some limitations apply. Please refer to the applicable Upgrade VISA® Debit Card Agreement and Disclosures for more information.

2 The 1.5% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) for the Performance Savings account is effective as of June 1, 2023. The APY for the Performance Savings account is variable and may change at any time. Active Accounts qualify for 5.07% APY with monthly $1000 direct deposit. The APY for Active Accounts is effective as of September 1, 2023, is variable, and may change at any time. Please refer to the applicable Cross River Bank Performance Savings Deposit Account Agreement and Truth in Savings Disclosure.

To earn APY, you must open and fund a Performance Savings account. Rewards Checking Plus accounts do not earn APY.

3 Early direct deposit requires set up of recurring electronic direct deposit from your employer, payroll, or benefits provider and is limited to direct deposits under $5000. Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing in which we receive notice of impending direct deposit, which is generally up to two days before the scheduled deposit date.

4 You will accrue cash back rewards when you pay eligible purchases back. To get 3% or 2% cash back on your Upgrade OneCard, you must open a Rewards Checking or Rewards Checking Plus account through Upgrade (“Rewards Checking Account”) and either (i) activate the Pay Now feature on your OneCard and keep that feature linked to your Rewards Checking account or (ii) maintain each month a qualifying active Rewards Checking Account as described here. If you meet these conditions, you will accrue 3% cash back for common everyday OneCard purchases at convenience stores, drugstores, restaurants and bars—including deliveries—and gas stations, as well as recurring payments on utilities and monthly subscriptions including phone, cable, TV and other streaming services; you will accrue 2% cash back for all other OneCard purchases. 3% cash back is limited to $500 in rewards per calendar year; after $500, you will accrue 2% cash back. If you do not meet the above conditions, you will accrue 1.5% cash back for all purchases. Your accrued cash back will generally be applied to your balance after your next scheduled monthly payment. If you do not have a balance and for as long as your card account is open, you may elect to have cash back applied as a deposit into your bank account on file. Cash back rewards are redeemed once applied. Cash back rewards applied to your balance will not otherwise reduce the amount of your regular monthly payments. Eligibility for cash back based on categories is determined by the merchant category code (MCC), which is assigned to merchants based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. Get more information on applicable merchant categories. Rewards associated with the Upgrade OneCard, when applicable, are provided by Upgrade, Inc. Rewards are a gratuity and not your property until redeemed. Balance transfers and payment on non-purchase transactions, such as sending funds electronically to your bank account, are not eligible to earn rewards. Some limitations apply. Please refer to your Cardholder Agreement for more information.

5 Pay Now is a feature of OneCard that allows you to designate specific purchases to be automatically paid off the day after purchases settle. When you authorize us to activate Pay Now, we’ll ask you to tell us your preferences as to which purchases you want to be designated as Pay Now and which as Pay Later. Each purchase will be processed as a credit transaction, but while you will not be charged interest on any purchases that you pay off using Pay Now, purchases designated as Pay Later will accrue interest at the fixed APR shown on your Truth-in-Lending disclosure. Every time you make a OneCard purchase, we’ll designate the purchase as Pay Now or Pay Later based on the preferences you gave us. Even after you make a purchase, you may change the designation of that purchase from Pay Now to Pay Later, or vice versa, up until 12pm Pacific Time the day after your purchase settles. Every day at 12pm Pacific Time, we will initiate one-time ACH debits to your bank account to pay off the prior day’s settled purchases that were designated as Pay Now. You may cancel a Pay Now payment up until 12pm Pacific Time by simply changing that day’s Pay Now purchases to Pay Later through your Upgrade dashboard or mobile app. If a Pay Now ACH debit is returned by your bank, we will switch the underlying purchases to Pay Later, and those purchases will accrue interest as of the original purchase date. Designating a purchase as Pay Later gives you the flexibility to pay balances back over time with a fixed payment period.

6 You may be granted Extra Spending Power if you designate a Rewards Checking Account to be the source of payments for the Pay Now feature of your Upgrade OneCard, maintain a positive available balance in the designated Rewards Checking account, and maintain your Upgrade OneCard account in good standing. If you meet these conditions, the amount of your Extra Spending Power is generally determined by your Rewards Checking account balance, with a larger deposit balance generally correlating to a higher Extra Spending Power, up to a maximum of $5,000. The Extra Spending Power supplements your Credit Limit to increase the amount of your Available to Spend for purchases. We reserve the right to raise or lower the Extra Spending Power maximum from time to time in our sole discretion subject to compliance with applicable law. If you qualify for Extra Spending Power and you make a purchase that causes your Upgrade OneCard balance to exceed your Credit Limit, the amount of the purchase that exceeds your Credit Limit will be processed as a Pay Now purchase, even if the total amount of the purchase would otherwise be processed as a Pay Later purchase based on your Pay Now settings

† Accept your loan offer and your funds will be sent to your bank or designated account within one (1) business day of clearing necessary verifications. Availability of the funds is dependent on how quickly your bank processes the transaction. From the time of approval, funds sent directly to you should be available within one (1) business day. Funds sent directly to pay off your creditors may take up to 2 weeks to clear, depending on the creditor.

Personal loans made through Upgrade feature Annual Percentage Rates (APRs) of 8.49%-35.99%. All personal loans have a 1.85% to 9.99% origination fee, which is deducted from the loan proceeds. Lowest rates require Autopay and paying off a portion of existing debt directly. Loans feature repayment terms of 24 to 84 months. For example, if you receive a $10,000 loan with a 36-month term and a 17.59% APR (which includes a 13.94% yearly interest rate and a 5% one-time origination fee), you would receive $9,500 in your account and would have a required monthly payment of $341.48. Over the life of the loan, your payments would total $12,293.46. The APR on your loan may be higher or lower and your loan offers may not have multiple term lengths available. Actual rate depends on credit score, credit usage history, loan term, and other factors. Late payments or subsequent charges and fees may increase the cost of your fixed rate loan. There is no fee or penalty for repaying a loan early.
