Global network of DNS servers

Use the DNS server closest to your physical location for best performance. If there is room for a 2nd DNS server, use the next closest location. If there is room for a 3rd DNS server, use the next closest location.

Configure DNS

Afer you have signed up for Getflix, you must update your DNS settings. You have two options:

  1. Update the DNS settings for your entire network by changing the DNS settings on your router/modem. This option ensures that any device connected to your network will be able to access unblocked services.
  2. Update the DNS settings on any individual device you wish to use to unblock services. This option means that unblocked services can only be accessed using these devices.

Option 1 should be used if you know how to configure DNS settings on your router. Setup guides for various routers can be found here. The remainder of this section describes how to change DNS settings on individual devices.

Select the device from the menu on this page for instructions on how to configure DNS settings as well as setup Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Configure DNS-over-VPN

Getflix DNS-over-VPN provides an alternative way of connecting to our DNS servers using a VPN. This allows you to use our DNS servers in situations where it wouldn’t normally be possible such as hotel rooms, public WiFi, 3G/4G connections and ISPs that block/hijack 3rd party DNS servers.

Supported VPN Protocols

Getflix Full VPN provides 4 different layers of VPN security protocols:

PPTP Protocol

PPTP provides 128 bit encryption. It’s supported by almost every operating system on PCs and mobile devices. Simple to setup. Usually provides very fast speed. But some Internet Service Providers are throttling this protocol which may give you very slow speeds and disconnections. In such case we suggest you to test L2TP, SSTP or OpenVPN protocols.

L2TP Protocol

Suggested for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android.

L2TP provides 256 bit encryption. It’s more secure then PPTP and also supported by almost every operating system on PCs and mobile devices. Simple to setup. Provides very fast speed.

SSTP Protocol

Suggested for Windows.

SSTP provides 2048 bit encryption. It’s very secure but can only be used on Windows operating systems. Simple to setup. Slower than PPTP and L2TP.

OpenVPN UDP Protocol

Suggested for Windows, Mac, Linux.

OpenVPN provides 2048 bit encryption. It’s also very secure and supported by almost every operating system on PCs and mobile devices. It’s complicated to setup. OpenVPN provides the fastest speed.

Which protocol should I use?

We usually suggest our users use OpenVPN UDP Protocol mainly as it provides the best encryption with the best possible speed on most networks. Depending of your ISP performance you may try L2TP or SSTP (Windows Only) protocols for the best encryption, security and speed. Some ISPs may be throttling PPTP and L2TP protocol which can lead slower than expected speeds or disconnections. In such case we suggest you to use SSTP or OpenVPN UDP.
